Pro Kinship for Kids is a mentorship program for at-risk youth in Brown County communities, that provides coordination of services between interested adults and targeted youth and their families. These youth are at-risk for a variety of reasons such as coming from low income families, single parent families, having learning disabilities, or just needing to work on socialization skills. The mission of Pro Kinship for Kids is to improve lives by establishing quality relationships between individuals and caring volunteers for the purpose of promoting stability, support, friendship and community.
One of the programs is the Sleepy Eye Youth Group Activity Program. The Youth Activity Programs in Brown County offers after-school/weekend/all year-round activities for children in kindergarten to grade nine.
The goals of this program are to improve socialization skills, improve self-esteem and improve citizenship.
Four of these activities each year are planned for the entire family. The goal here is to encourage families to have fun together and to strengthen family ties.
The program provides two to three activities each month for your child to participate in. These events are held in Sleepy Eye during the year either at Trinity Lutheran Church or Allison Park. They also bus youth to some of the activities outside of Sleepy Eye. Some examples of activities they do with the youth are swimming at a variety of places, bowling, Twins game trip, sand art creations, family old fashion fall party with horse-drawn wagon rides, Lake Shetek Environmental Learning Center trip, suncatchers and holiday parties.
This program has enrollment forms that need to be obtained and completed before your child can participate.
