  • United Way of Brown County sponsors the youth activities scholarship program for those families who are unable to pay for the costs of afterschool activities for their children. The guidelines to qualify for the program are available on the United Way website or at the office of all of the schools in Brown County.
This past year saw record usage of the program with over 300 children receiving over $29,000 in scholarships. Of that number, 60 applicants came from Sleepy Eye area schools and received over $4,000. As school budgets get tighter, some of the activity waivers are disappearing and United Way is committed to making sure all families have access to the same opportunities to participate. As we begin a new fiscal year with our scholarship program, we hope to increase the dollars available so that every child who qualifies will get the help they need to get and stay involved. This program is just one of the many services that United Way of Brown County can provide due to the generous support of Brown County residents.
