  • John "Jack" Steffl, 79, of rural Sleepy Eye, Minn. died on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012 at his home. Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye on Thursday, Sept. 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 7:30 to 10 a.m. There will be a KC Rosary at 4 p.m. and a Parish Prayer service at 7 p.m., both Thursday at the funeral home. Service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. The Clergy will be Fr. Mark Steffl and Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with military rites by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.     John L. "Jack" Steffl was born on September 29, 1932 in Sleepy Eye, the son of John A. and Alma (Hartneck) Steffl. He grew up and attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Sleepy Eye and graduated with the class of 1951. After graduation he entered the U.S. Army serving from 1953 to 1955. Jack married Sylvia Marso on February 10, 1962 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. The couple lived and farmed north of Sleepy Eye. Jack was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed hunting, bowling and was an avid sports fan.
    Jack is survived by his wife, Sylvia of Sleepy Eye; children, Michael Steffl of Sleepy Eye, Stephen Steffl of Roseville, Daniel (Lisa) Steffl of Sleepy Eye, Paul Steffl of Sleepy Eye; four grandchildren, Katie, Sarah, Andrew and Grace Steffl, and brothers and sisters, Cornelius (Lucille) Steffl, Monica Hertling, Phyllis (Richard) Garry and Jerome (Ruth) Steffl; sister-in-law, Mary Steffl.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Beatrice (Edward) Ganske, Bernice (Norbert) Zschetzsche, Leslie (Deloris) Steffl, Louie and Paul and brother-in-law Sylvester Hertling.
