  • Kari Schumacher becomes winningest varsity runner in Knights program history.
Schumacher became the first runner the Knights have ever had to win three varsity races in her career.
“It was a great way for her to start her senior season,” Coach Scott DeMaris commented.
“Her time of 17:23 for the 4K course was very respectable for the conditions. She ran very smart by allowing another girl to lead the first half, then she pulled away for a convincing win,” DeMaris concluded.
Other varsity runners were, Megan DeMaris, who finished 8th with a time of 21:00, and first time varsity runner, Mary Joyce who finished in 9th place with a time of 21:20.
For the boys, Stephen Joyce led the way by placing 8th place with a 21:10 time for the 5k.
Nick DeMaris finished in 13th place for his varsity debut with a 22:26 time.
Zach Long crossed the line in 23:50 good for 21st place with Ezra Krzmarzick finishing in 30th with a time of 26:53
St. James won both the boys and girls team competition, as the Knights were incomplete for both.
The Knights also had two Junior High runners compete in the 2k. Jenny Lax finished in 5th with a time of 9:44 and Angie Kiecker came in at 10:06 good for 7th place.
The next meet for the runners is at Tracy on Thursday, Sept. 6.
