The Sleepy Eye Indians volleyball squad opened up the 2012 season with a three-game to none shut out of the Truman Bluejays on Tuesday night.
All three games were tough battles throughout, though the Indians managed to hold off the Bluejay's attempts at finding the upside of the score.
In the first game the Indians allowed the Jays to rally themselves to within a point near the end of the game with a 24-23 score, but Sleepy Eye held off and pulled out a win in game one by a narrow two point, 25-23 victory.
The Indians came out strong in the second game of the match taking an early lead helped out by the serves of Tia Cselovszki and Sam Krebsbach. The Indians continued the strong play pulling off a 25-20 victory in game number two.
Sleepy Eye again came out strong for the third game, jumping to a 5-1 lead, though Truman wasn't going to go down as easy.
The third game was a battle to the end with the score remaining within a few points down the stretch. Truman eventually tied things up at 20, but that was as close as they could pull. Sleepy Eye put up three points, Truman added one, with the Indians putting up the final point, taking the final game of the match 25-21.
"It was so great to have them come out and play as a team", Head coach Courtney Brey commented after the game.
"We could tell these last few weeks in practice, something just clicked. It's been a great atmosphere to be in. They took that and ran with it tonight." She concluded.
The win puts Sleepy Eye's record at 1-0.
The next match for the Indians is Thursday, Aug. 30 against Martin Luther on the Indian's home court.
