Ida Mary Sperl was born to John and Bertha (Hauser) Sperl on April 6, 1917 in Albin Township, Brown County. She married Otto Janni on April 16, 1947 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After marriage they farmed in Sigel Township, Brown County. In 1976 they retired and moved to New Ulm. Ida was a farm wife and home maker all of her life. She crocheted and knitted many many items; blankets, throws, doll clothing and accessories, doilies and more. Ida particularly enjoyed making many different dolls that she dressed and accessorized with the items she had made. She gave most of these items to family members and friends as gifts and donated many for church picnics. The last years, when she was unable to do these things anymore because of arthritis and poor sight, she spent her time doing word search puzzles and kept up with the news by reading the newspapers with the aid of a magnifying glass. Ida loved all her grandchildren and baby sat them often when they were small. Ida loved to fish, and went to local lakes with her family many times. Her only trips were a couple of short fishing trips to the Alexandria area and a motor home trip with a son to Oregon to visit relatives. She enjoyed visits with family and friends. Her mind and memory was sharp up until the last days. She became a resident of the Countryside Assisted Living Center in Sleepy Eye in 2002 and then a resident of the Care Center on March 3, 2009. Ida was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Aid Society, and a past member of the Christian Mothers Society in Searles. The family prefers memorials to the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm or to the Sleepy Eye Care Center. www.mvfh.org
