Wendelin "Wendy" Sellner, 80, of New Ulm died Monday, July 9, 2012 at the Lakeview Ranch in Dassel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 13, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery with full military honors being conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 - 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The St. Joseph-St. Elizabeth Catholic United Council will pray the rosary at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Wendelin George Sellner was born October 15, 1931 in Stark Township, Brown County to William and Cecilia (Mathiowetz) Sellner. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1953, earning the Combat Infantry Badge. After his service to his country, he was united in marriage to Grace Zander on May 24, 1954 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Wendelin and Grace farmed in Stark Township until they retired and moved to New Ulm in 1993. He was a member of the VFW Post #800 in Sleepy Eye, the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, the St. Joseph's-St. Elizabeth's Catholic United Council, Stark Township Baseball Association and NFO.
Wendelin is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law; Deborah and Melvin Moldan of New Ulm, Marjorie and Mark Holmes of Brooklyn Park, Denise and Mark Fischer of New Ulm, Karen and Robert Schneider of Plymouth; sons and daughters-in-law, William and Kris Sellner of New Ulm, Patrick and Kathy Sellner of rural Fairfax, Loran and Heidi Sellner of Sleepy Eye; 19 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Cecilia Scherer of Sleepy Eye, Marcella and Ray Hager of New Ulm; a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Gloria Sellner of Sleepy Eye.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Grace Sellner on April 1, 1999; grandsons, Derek Sellner and Gregory Holmes; a brother, Benjamin Sellner; a brother-in-law, Leo Scherer.
