Thelma M. Peterson, age 94, of Hutchinson, formerly of Sleepy Eye, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at Cedar Crest Estates in Hutchinson. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, with interment in the Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. Thelma Mae Peterson, also known as Nana, was born on February 5, 1918, in Minneapolis. She was the daughter of Edward and Pansy Lenore (Leach) Hockstein. Thelma was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both in the Lutheran faith in Windom. Thelma received her elementary education in Okabenna and attended Heron Lake High School in Heron Lake. On July 12, 1936, Thelma was united in marriage to Calvin Peterson at Windom Lutheran Church in Windom. This marriage was blessed with one daughter, Harriet. Thelma and Calvin resided in the Comfrey area. They shared 56 years of marriage, before Calvin passed away on January 5, 1993. In addition to being a loving homemaker and mother, Thelma owned and operated Four Corners Restaurant in Darfur, for six years and later held employment at AUI in Sleepy Eye. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. Thelma enjoyed dancing, cooking, polka and country music, gardening and playing cards, especially Sheepshead. She cherished the time she spent with her daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren. When Thelma needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident of the Cedar Crest Estates in Hutchinson on June 9, 2009. She passed away there on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at the age of 94 years. She will be dearly missed.
Thelma is survived by her daughter, Harriet Macho of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Carmen (Julio) Jaurez of Glencoe, Michael (Barb) Macho of Hutchinson, Dennis (Mary) Macho of Bloomington, Robin (Dale) Schottle of Sleepy Eye, Pamela Helget of Hutchinson; grandchild-in-law, Jim Helget of Hutchinson; 14 great grandchildren, Nicole Johnson, Rusty Schottle, Randy Schottle, Steve and Mike Suess, Sonya Scott, Aaron and Kyle Macho, Shelby, Sam, and Riley Helget, Jennifer, Justin, and Brandon Macho; 16 great-great grandchildren, Kolton Plombon, Jaedon Suess, Trinity, Zach, and Anthony Suess, Kane, Raegan, and Chael Johnson, Cora and Cameron Schottle, Kenzie Scott, Gina, Daunte and Ciana Molinaro, and Dominic Macho; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
Thelma is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Pansy Hockstein; husband, Calvin Peterson; brothers, Harold Hockstein, Frank Hockstein; sister, Lucille Rossow.
