The Sleepy Eye Herald Dispatch - Sleepy Eye, MN
  • Summer fun coming soon

  • How fast is your summer going? Doesn’t it feel like school just started? Christmas was just here? Easter went by like a flash, prom, graduation, summer started and vacations should now be in full swing? What happened to June, the first month of summer?

Just like all the other months, it has flown by in a heartbeat. I hope you’ve had the opportunity to take advantage of some beautiful days and get some much deserved fun in the sun and relaxation.
Some of Sleepy Eye’s major summer events are just around the corner. Do you have them on your calendar to attend?
Next week is the July 4th celebration with the Eagles burger feed in Allison Park and that evening the traditional fireworks display. Sleepy Eye is so fortunate to be one of the few communities that continue this July 4th tradition.
After that, the last Thursday, July 26 is Party in the Park sponsored by the Sleepy Eye Police Dept. and the Sleepy Eye Area Chamber of Commerce. It is a family-friendly evening in Allison Park with something to do for everyone of all ages. If your organization has not let Julie know you are participating, you’ll want to get that information to her ASAP! She is in the process of getting posters put together and advertising.
The biggest summer weekend is Corn Days, held each year the third weekend in August. This year free buttered sweet corn will be served Friday, Aug. 17, with something for everyone in Allison Park all day. Saturday, Aug. 18 is the Citywide Garage Sales taking place throughout the community and don’t forget the Grande Parade that evening. If you can’t find something fun to do this summer, you’re not looking very hard!
Thought for the week: Enthusiasm is that kindling spark which marks the difference between the leaders in every activity and the laggards who put in just enough to get by. – Johann Friedrich Schiller
