The 16 and Under fast pitch softball team split a double-header with Worthington at home last Thursday night.
Sleepy Eye 8
Sleepy Eye held the lead throughout the game until the sixth inning behind solid pitching from Carly Jensen. Worthington exploded for seven runs in the sixth to take a 7-9 lead. Sleepy Eye could only manage one run in the bottom of the seventh for a tough loss in a game in which they held a 7-2 lead until the fateful sixth. Jordyn Domeier, Emily Schumacher and Laura Pelzel each had two hits for Sleepy Eye in the losing effort.
Sleepy Eye 18
Sleepy Eye quickly avenged the first game loss, clobbering Worthington 18-1 in the second game behind the shut-down two-hit pitching of Laura Pelzel, who got the win. The only Worthington run was unearned. Sleepy Eye scored eight runs in the second inning and six in the fourth inning to close out the game in the fifth on the 10-run rule. Emily Schumacher smacked a home run in the third, and Jamie Fischer, Laura Pelzel and Carly Jensen each had two hits.
