George J. Lux, age 91, of Sleepy Eye died on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. and will continue on Thursday from 7:30-10 a.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye with burial following at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. George Jake Lux was born on September 5, 1920 in Granville, Iowa the son of Nicholas and Anna (Hemmen) Lux. In 1921 they moved to a farm North of Sleepy Eye where George grew up and attended school. He was united in marriage to Mary Scherer on September 17, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. The couple lived and farmed near Sleepy Eye for many years. George was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. He loved farming, fishing, playing cards and visiting with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of New Ulm; children, Douglas Lux of New Ulm, Audrey (Larry) Johnson of Marquette, Mich. and Gerald (Michelle) Lux of Sleepy Eye; three grandchildren, Jeffery, Krystal and Travis; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Hayley; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Schouvieller.
George was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and five brothers.
