  • Mary Jane Elizabeth Meyer, 71, of Sleepy Eye, died on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield. Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and at Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 10 a.m. The Clergy will be Pastor Keith R. Ainsley and Interment will be in Home Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. E-mail condolences may be sent to the family via www.sturmfh.com
    Mary Jane Elizabeth Meyer was born on July 13, 1940, the daughter of Norbert F. and Stella C. (Sturm) Rathman in Mulligan Township, Brown County, Minn. She grew up and graduated from Comfrey High School in 1958. Mary graduated from Minnesota School of Business in 1959. She married Monis Meyer on June 24th, 1961. They adopted two children, Jason and Tracee. Mary worked at the Springfield Medical Center until 1964, She moved to Sleepy Eye in 1979 and worked several jobs including, selling Mary Kay, cleaning at Hauser & Schmid and most recently for the City of Sleepy Eye. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she loved teaching Sunday School and served on the Stewardship Board. Her most valued treasures were her faith, family and friends. Her favorite times were when she spent time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved spending time gardening and tending to her houseplants. Her energy and positive attitude were an inspiration to everyone she met. Her always smiling face and cheerful greetings will be greatly missed by all.
    She is survived by her daughter, Tracee (Francis) Fromm of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren, Daniel and Zachary Fromm, Abigail and Ian "Willie" Meyer, granddaughter-in-law, Jess Fromm; great-grandchildren, Jaida and Madelyn Fromm, Alassandra Keefe, Link Fromm and Daemon Fromm; brothers, Richard (Betty) Rathman of Albert Lea, James (Rosemary) Rathman of Comfrey; and sister, Aleda Mathiowetz of St. Paul.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Daniel Rathman; son, Jason in 2003; grandson, Alan Fromm in 2009.
