  • It’s great to have a special day reserved for celebrating and honoring mothers! At the very least, if it weren’t for them, we wouldn’t be here!  Having one day to honor them just doesn’t seem enough though, but it’s a start!
From the moment we were born, our mothers have guided and influenced us. They have given more than even seems possible. A mother’s love comes from deep within the heart, and shows itself in so many ways ~ nights of snuggling, feeding, changing diapers and toilet training, encouraging us to walk and talk, wiping noses, appreciating gifts of nature and experiments in cooking, science, or helping around the house, patience, listening to creative stories or any other thoughts from the day, constant teaching and encouragement, comforting and holding us when we’re sick, driving and delivering us, being available at all hours, knowing just what we need, persevering when energy was low or times were tough, and supporting and loving us just as we are. And it never stops ~ the care and love of a mother continues to sustain and shape us throughout our lifetime!
I have always appreciated my mother ~ her amazing character, concern for others, energy, passion, all the work she does and her endless dedication to her children! When I became a mother myself though, is when I truly began to realize what it all entailed. The appreciation multiplied immensely.
The honor of being a mother is a gift like no other! Do you remember when you first became a mother? There was the initial anticipation, the unknown and the tinge of worry whether you would be able to do the best you could for your child. Then the moment arrived, perhaps after some pain and discomfort, your child was there, in your arms and the flood of emotions hit! The overwhelming surge of love, the rush of immeasurable wishes, total joy, protective instincts kicking in, and a wave of peace and satisfaction with life and the present moment, so relaxing that any discomfort that was, was quickly forgotten. It is something amazing, difficult to explain exactly and life-changing!
And then… from each day thereafter, the privilege continues. It’s a hard job, no doubt ~ continuously learning and navigating various challenges and surprises, and you never clock out, but it can be the most rewarding job you’ll ever get to do! “Parenting is the hardest job you’ll ever love” (author unknown). Without a manual, you go along each day, doing the best you can, growing and changing along with your child. Giving your entire self, emotionally and physically, when your child needs it and then learning to let go when they need to grow. As a mother we get to be a nurturer, counselor, confidant, doctor, nurse, teacher, cab driver, cook, housekeeper, homework helper, cheerleader, disciplinarian, juggler, photographer and so much more. Building, creating and influencing the life of another!
