After a tense and exhausting double-header win over New Ulm Cathedral  last Monday, the Knights traveled to Blue Earth to take on the Buccaneers in a non-conference game. The St. Mary’s players must have been dragging because they made an uncharacteristic five errors in the first inning and gave up seven runs to Blue Earth. But this is a class team that shook off their fatigue and rallied with six runs in the third to tie the game 7-7. They gave up three more to the Buccaneers in the bottom of the inning bit came back with six more in the top of the fifth to gain control of the game, taking the lead 13-10. The Knights posted three more runs in the top of the seventh to put the game away after Blue Earth tied it up in the sixth with two runs. “We didn’t have our focus at the start of this one,” said Bruce Woitas, head coach, St. Mary’s. “Our guys regrouped and we worked our way back into the game and came away with an ugly win, but sometimes it’s OK to win ugly.”
