It was just like being back in time. A simpler era where problems didn’t exist.

I don’t remember coming to Sleepy Eye when I was first in the area to hear Sandra Lee and the Velvets, but I do remember every one of the songs  they sang by the original artists. Songs like “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar; “Queen of Hearts” by Juice Newton; “Dream Lover” by Bobby Darin; “Could I Have This Dance” by Ann Murray; and “It’s So Easy” by Buddy Holly” and so many others.

Those were songs that people loved to dance and sing to. What was even more amazing Saturday night at the Eagles Orchid Inn as Sandy, Red and the gang played, was the variety of ages of people on the dance floor. Everyone was smiling, singing and doing their best to ‘shake it’ to the beat of the local favorites.

It was an evening of simple paradise for many people. One has to wonder, could a band like Sandra Lee and the Velvets make a come back? There are so many people who really appreciated their style of music. All night long I kept hearing people comment how they brought back so many great memories! “Do you think they would play again?” another said.

Maybe, if they knew just how much they were appreciated for their talent and the time they devoted to making others happy, maybe they could be convinced to do another show sometime.

Sandra Lee and the Velvets, thank you for taking us back in time and bringing back wonderful memories of days gone by. We certainly hope you enjoyed the evening as much as the residents of Sleepy Eye and several surrounding communities enjoyed you Saturday night.
