Kathryn JoAnn (Orpen) Manthei, 79, of Rice Lake, formerly of Sleepy Eye, made her final journey home on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Our House Memory Care. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Skinner Funeral Home, Rice Lake and for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. A Women of the Moose service will be held Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the Skinner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2012 at Bethany Lutheran Church - Rice Lake with Rev. Russ Sorensen officiating. Burial will be in Northern Wisconsin Veterans' Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers are Andrea Konkol, Amy Bruggeman, David Manthei, Jennie Hinz, Alex Bruggeman, Matt Hinz, and Sarah Manthei. Skinner Funeral Home of Rice Lake is serving the family.
She was born January 11, 1933 in Fergus Falls, to Carl and Astrid (Akern) Orpen, and graduated from Fergus Falls High School. She was married in Fergus Falls, on November 23, 1952 to Marvin Manthei. Kathy worked for a time for the Sleepy Eye School District, raised her family, and most recently worked for 16 years at the Rice Lake Public Library. She was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Manthei of Rice Lake, Wisc.; children, Sharon Manthei (Mark Demma) of Eagan, and children, Matt and Jennie Hinz; Steven Manthei of Eau Claire, and children, David and Sarah Manthei; Susan (Pat) Bruggeman of Sleepy Eye, and children, Andrea (Nate) Konkol, Amy (and fiance Jesse Hoffmann) and Alex Bruggemann; her great granddaughter, Naima.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Donald and Charles Orpen and one sister, Margie Will.
