  • Genevieve A. Hillesheim, 89, of Sleepy Eye died on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012 at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.

  • Genevieve A. Hillesheim, 89, of Sleepy Eye, died on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012 at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye, MN. Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home on Sunday  from 2 to 5 PM and on Monday from 7:30 to 10 a.m. There will be a parish prayer service at 5pm Sunday at the funeral home. Service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. The Clergy will be Msgr. Eugene Lozinski & Fr. Paul Schumacher Interment St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. E-mail condolences may be sent to the family via www.sturmfh.com
    Genevieve A. Hillesheim was born on July 20, 1922 in rural Leavenworth, MN the daughter of Joseph & Leona (Ludewig) Huiras. She grew up and attended country school near Leavenworth and worked at Pietrus Produce for a few years prior to marriage. Genevieve married Alfred Hillesheim at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth on February 4, 1947. They lived and farmed near Sleepy Eye until moving into town in 1987. Genevieve worked at Del Monte Foods for a few years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, CCW and the Catholic Aid Assoc. She was proud of raising her six children and helping her husband on the farm, she was gentle woman who loved her family and tried to lead them by setting a good example throughout her life. She enjoyed her grandchildren and attending family gatherings.
    Survivors include her children, Vernard (Carol) Hillesheim of Sanborn, William (Ann) Hillesheim of Sleepy Eye, Monica (LeRoy) Hauth of Springfield, Ralph (Susie) Hillesheim of Sleepy Eye, Dennis (Gwen) Hillesheim of Sleepy Eye and Charles (Dee) Hillesheim of Mankato, 17 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, sisters, Odelia Hillesheim of Springfield, Eunice (Marv) Frericks of New Ulm, Jeanette (Ronald) Zollner of Acton, MA, and Maryann Huiras of San Deigo, CA, sisters-in-law, Joleen Huiras and Lynette Huiras and brother-in-law, Charles Grosam. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 7 brothers and 3 sisters.
