  • After a great four game winning streak, the SEPS?girls basketball squad has hit a bit of a drought in seeing the win column, dropping their last two games.
The first loss came at home to the Buffalo Lake-Hector Mustangs.
“BL-H got out to a 11-4 start and never looked back,” head coach Ryan Hulke said. “We missed four wide open lay-ups in the first half, and those missed opportunities just seemed to really hurt our morale. Instead of going into half down 13, it could have been five. We got it back to single digits multiple times in the second half, but couldn’t get the stops we needed to make it a game. We would get a stop then miss an easy shot, or hit a jumper and give up a lay-up; we just couldn’t get in a flow on either end. Fouls, and a technical down the stretch made it look worse than what it really was.” Hulke concluded.
The team then headed to Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Monday evening, and suffered another defeat.
“We didn’t take care of the ball early and that allowed MVL to get out to a quick 22-9 lead with 10 minutes to go in the first half. So we went into halftime down 19 points. We made a 15-6 run early in the second half to get within 10, but our next two possessions after that run resulted in turnovers which allowed MVL to get the lead back to 15,” Hulke commented.
“Our defensive rotations and help side defense were nonexistent Monday night and when you play against a good point guard which MVL has, she makes those mistakes hurt. There’s so much more to a good defense than guarding someone 1 on 1, and we are failing to see that right now.” He concluded.
The loss moves Sleepy Eye to 12-7 overall on the season.
The next action for the team is Friday night at Cedar Mountain-Comfrey.
