St. Mary’s 61, GFW 48
The Knights played an away game against the winless GFW team Monday night and came away with a much needed conference win. St. Mary’s built a first half lead for a 29-20 advantage. The Knights maintained the lead throughout the rest of the game as the Thunderbirds could not mount a credible threat. “We had good offensive balance tonight and we need to keep getting that,” said coach Bruce Woitas. “I thought our defense was off at times and we need to keep working on making that better.”

New Ulm Cathedral 47
New Ulm Cathedral handed St. Mary’s a conference loss, 41-47 at an away game last Thursday. It was a tough first half for the Knights girls as they just could not get their offense going. They trailed 13-21, but played much better in the second half, actually outscoring the Greyhounds 28-26. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to erase the gap created in the first half. St. Mary’s faded late in the second half, missing several key free throws and shots while New Ulm went 12 of 14 from the bonus stripe. “We need to stay positive and keep working hard and things will change for the better,” said St. Mary’s coach Bruce Woitas.
