  • Anna M. (Mrs. Joseph) Brandl, 89, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on Monday, Jan. 30, 2012 at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.

  • Anna M. (Mrs. Joseph) Brandl, 89, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on Monday, Jan. 30, 2012 at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye. Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. There will be a parish prayer service Thursday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Service will be held at Church of the Japanese Martyrs, Leavenworth on Friday, February  3, 2012 at 10 a.m. The Clergy will be Fr. Andy Michels and Interment will be in the Japanese Martyrs Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. E-mail condolences may be sent to the family via www.sturmfh.com
    Anna Margaret Brandl was born on May 10, 1922 in New Ulm, MN to Joseph and Anna (Reinhart) Griebel. She grew up and attended country school in Searles. Anna worked for various families in the area caring for their children. She worked at Loretto Hospital in New Ulm as a nurse's aide. Anna married Joseph W. Brandl on May 7, 1946 in Searles. The couple lived and farmed in Mulligan Township and moved to Sleepy Eye in 1989. She was a member of Church of the Japanese Martyr's, Christian Mothers and CCW. Anna enjoyed embroidery, baking, playing cards, bingo and spending time with her grandchildren. Anna and Joseph were the first couple to give birth to triplets at the Comfrey Hospital.
    She is survived by her daughters; Patty (Donald) Haala of Sleepy Eye, Marie Hauser of Sleepy Eye, Teresa (Ron) Seidl, Karen (Harry) Paa, Shari Brandl, Jean (Gene) Regner all of New Ulm, Jane (Patrick) Riederer of Sleepy Eye, Janice (Kenny) Haag of New Ulm, Laurie Brandl of New Ulm, sons; Roger Brandl of Springfield, David Brandl of Springfield, Richard (Karen) Brandl of Comfrey, Donald (Susan) Brandl of Lake Park, Iowa, Ronald Brandl of Springfield, 23 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 13 step great-grandchildren, 1 step great-great grandchild, sisters, Gerti Griebel, Violet Griebel and sister-in law, Lu Griebel.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; sons, Mark and Josie; sisters, Roslyn and Edith; brothers, Al, Bill, Hubert, Martin, Benjamin, Frank and Joe; and grandson, Leon Hauser.
