In a strange fate of scheduling, the Eagles took to the ice a night later in an away game against St. Paul United. St. Paul plays in a very tough league that includes top hockey programs at Blake and Breck. The New Ulm girls must have been exhausted and were never really in the game, although they played a good first period for a 1-1 score. Brook Schugel scored at 2:44 unassisted for the Eagles, but St. Paul answered at 6:29 when Maggie Blaisdell found the net. The second period was all St. Paul as they posted five unanswered goals to take command of the game. The third period wasn’t much better as St. Paul scored twice before Brittany Denn scored the final goal of the game, assisted by Sleepy Eye player Erika Ries. Bailey Landreville took the loss in the nets, stopping 26 of 34 shots.
New Ulm is 3-0 in conference play and 6-8-1 overall. The Eagles play Litchfield-Dassel-Cokato at home on Tuesday Jan. 10.
