  • Bruggeman named assistant commissioner of MN Department of Education

  • On May 9, 2011, former Sleepy Eye teacher and principal, Elia Bruggeman was named alongside Rose Wan-Mui Chu as one of two assistant commissioners for the Minnesota Department of Education. In this role, Elia will be assisting Commissioner Brenda Cassellius.

  • On May 9, 2011, former Sleepy Eye teacher and principal, Elia Bruggeman was named alongside Rose Wan-Mui Chu as one of two assistant commissioners for the Minnesota Department of Education. In this role, Elia will be assisting Commissioner Brenda Cassellius.
    A press release by the Minnesota Department of Education praises Elia and her colleague for their “extensive educational experience and commitment to helping children succeed.”
    “I?am thrilled to welcome both Elia and Rose to round-out my executive team,”?said Commissioner Cassellius. “Each brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to their positions, but more importantly, each brings a passion for helping kids succeed that will make them great advocates for all students and great additions to the team.”
    Elia was a teacher at St. James Public Schools for 10 years, and in Sleepy Eye she was the principal at the public school for eight years.
    She has also been a professor at Minnesota State University in Mankato.
    Elia has also served as the World Language Department Chair and as the Academic Dean at Shattuck-St. Mary’s Preparatory School in Faribault.
