Kenneth Platz, 71, of Comfrey, Minn., died on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011 at his home. Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 7, 2011 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home in Comfrey, Minn. and will continue on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 from 9:30 to10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Catholic Church in Comfrey. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Comfrey. The Clergy will be Father Andy Michels. Kenneth Benno Platz was born November 28, 1939 the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Schunk) in Springfield, MN. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1957. During his high school years he participated in baseball as well as the township league. After high school he worked for the Comfrey Feed Store and later bought his own milk truck and hauled milk for the Comfrey Creamery. On June 7, 1960, Ken was married to Joyce Hornick in Leavenworth. In the fall of 1969 Ken bought the Ben Cullen farm and began his farming career. His favorite past times were fishing with his grandkids, hunting, golfing and playing cards. He also enjoyed selling and visiting at the Platz's Farmers Market.
Ken is survived by his wife - Joyce of Comfrey; children - Susan and husband Terry Cunningham of Garretson, SD, Darrell and wife Jolene Platz of Comfrey, Jane and husband Mark Abel of Chanhassen, Lisa and husband Larry Allen of Springfield, Dan Platz and special friend Renee Cook of Castlewood, SD; 11 grandchildren; brothers and sisters - Marion Roiger, Roselyn Sell, Marjorie Boklep, Joseph, James, Bernard, Thomas and Patrick Platz. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters - Doris Goettig and Elizabeth Platz; and brother-in-law - Ray Goettig.
