Lions President, Ron Peterson receives a plaque as outgoing president for the 2012-13 year. Ron handed over the gravel to newly elected Lions president Dave Haala for 2013-14.

The Diocesan Junior High Youth rally was held April 28 at St. Mary’s Church in Sleepy Eye. There were 420 kids and adults in attendance.

Samuel Wagner will be ordained a deacon for the Diocese of New Ulm on Saturday, June 15 at the Church of St. Mary in Sleepy Eye by the Most Reverend John M. LeVoir, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of New Ulm. The ordination Mass will begin at 10 a.m.

Molly Lax, a recent graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Sleepy Eye, is the second place winner of the 2013 Clean Air Choice Biodiesel Essay Scholarship.

Sleepy Eye residents may have noticed some changes taking place at Sleepy Eye Telephone Company. The most notable physical change is the new signage replacing the Sleepy Eye Telephone Company with NU-Telecom.

Community Insurance Agency (CIA) owners Ashley and Joe Schieffert along with Dwight DeBoer of Lafayette would like to introduce Laurie Eckstein as their newest agent. Laurie began her duties at CIA on Monday, June 10.

In 2009 Pastor Josh Doughty was fresh out of Asbury Theological Seminary school and had spent a year at a small church in central Minnesota before becoming the pastor at Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye.

Dr. Michael J. Ecker, 62, died June 5 at the SEMC after practicing medicine in Sleepy Eye for over 30 years, Memorial services will be held at a later date.

The Sleepy Eye Post 7 Legion team won their first game of the summer on June 10 when they hosted New Ulm Gold.

He did it in basketball, now he’s done it in baseball.
